I spent two very inspiring weeks at Cycladic Arts Residency on Paros. Here, I was able to create an installation, Sea of Tranquility, that allowed me to work through the loss of my father, my aunt, uncle and my dear friends, who all left within the past two years. It has been part of my practice in the past to create from found materials combined with ones that I purposefully brought into the process. Here, I brought the wire and the metallic foil with me, the stones with the holes, which are created by tiny sea animals led me down this path of making a work that resembles both, the heaviness and lightness of life.
I further finalized a series of self portraits, DE.RO.HU.US. Whenever a change occurs in my life, I halt and make a self portrait, mostly with a skull. This time, my return to Europe after a decade of absence made me think about my European multi-cultural presence, reflecting my many presences in countries, cultures and languages.
