metamorphosen (metamorphosis), 2013 / 2017is a series of sculptures using umbrellas and wires as source material. Both material are found. The umbrellas were picked up in the urban landscape; Damaged byweather conditions against which they were promised to offer shelter.
The collected objects are unveiledfrom the torn fabric and reduced to their post-functional skeletons. The shape caused by the damage is the vantage point for the development of each sculpture/creature. As these mechanical objectslost their functionality, the comfort of shelter, theytransformed into organic forms.
The sculptures are playful and beautiful and at the same time dangerous and eerie. The skeletons resemble insects.
As part of the body of work “metamorphosen” (metamorphosis) these drawings evolved during my process of making my sculptures, out of found materials and umbrellas. As much as they are a study of lines and shapes, they simultaneously refer to a space non visible in the sculptures itself.A space, that once created safety but has been torn apart and then reinvented.
